Bringing pets to Ireland

It is possible to bring your cat or dog to Ireland without the need for quarantine. How to do that?

PART I - FILLING THE PET PASSPORT

MICRO-CHIP and PASSPORT

Your pet must be identified by micro-chip, which should comply with ISO standard 11784 or Annex A to ISO standard 11785. If not the case you must carry your own scanner.

With micro-chip your pet will receive the Pet Passport. It's obligatory to fill in all requested fields.

VACCINATION AGAINST RABIES
After micro-chipping, your pet must have been vaccinated against rabies.

BLOOD-TEST
About a month later your pet must be blood tested to confirm a neutralising antibody titration at least equal to 0.5 IU/ml. The test must be carried out in a laboratory approved for this purpose (click below to see the list):
http://ec.europa.eu/food/animal/liveanimals/pets/approval_en.htm

6 months after blood-test your pet could travel to Ireland.

TREATMENT FOR TICK AND TAPEWORM
Between 24 and 48 hours before you check-in for travel you must bring your pet to a registered veterinarian to be treated against tick and tapeworm. The collar impregnated with acaricide is not allowed. The tapeworm treatment must contain praziquantal.

Each activity must be write down very carefully in your pet passport.
